1. What is dental implant?
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that, inserted into the jaw to replace missing teeth. Today, implants with attached crowns are the preferred method for treating tooth loss because they function the same as natural teeth and help preserve the jaw structure by preventing atrophy from bone loss.
Dental implants manufactured from titanium that has the strength to fuse with the bone without creating any allergic reaction in the body. Permanent implants maintain proper chewing function and exert appropriate, natural forces on the jawbone to keep it functional and healthy.
At Global Dental Center our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Musa Kartöz performs dental implant operations.
Treatment options for single tooth missing are implant or bridge treatment. If the implant is applied, treatment can be provided without any treatment to the teeth next to the gap.
Treatment options for multiple tooth missing include implants, bridges, or mobile dentures. If implant treatment is preferred, the number of implants to be used may vary depending on the size of the gap to be closed.

3. How many dental implants will i need?
There are many factors that are considered when determining the number of implants and areas to be made for our patients. These include the length of the gap, the number of missing teeth, masticatory strength, bone quality, distance between the jaws, the type of prosthesis to be made, and the patient’s systemic condition.
While one implant is sufficient for single tooth defects, it is recommended to place 2 implants for 3-4 tooth defects and 3 or more implants for 4 or more tooth defects.
In completely edentulous patients, different treatment procedures can be used. These are usually all on four and all on six treatment procedures.
4. What is the procedure of implant operation?
1- Examination: It is used to assess whether the person is suitable for implantation. First, the general health condition is examined by the implanting specialist, and an intraoral examination, X-rays and model examinations are used to decide whether the health condition is suitable for the implant.
2- Planning: This is the most important phase of the implant. The radiological examinations are performed with the help of panoramic radiographs. The missing teeth, the gums, the patient’s bone quality, the findings from the examination of the adjacent tissues and the information obtained from the radiological examinations are combined and the area of the jaw where the implant is to be placed, as well as the type, width and length of the implant to be placed are determined and the most ideal implant treatment plan for the patient is established.
3-Implant placement: Under local anaesthesia, the implant screws are inserted into the opened slot in the jawbone. The duration of the procedure may vary depending on the number of implants to be placed and the condition of the patient’s mouth, and takes an average of 20-30 minutes for 1 implant. The procedure is painless.
4- Healing process: In this phase the implant should fuse with the jawbone. This fusion process (osseointegration) takes between 3-6 months. During this process our patients should take the prescribed medications regularly and pay attention to their oral hygiene.
5- Prosthetic treatment: In the final phase, porcelain or zirconium veneers, called crowns, are attached to the implants. These veneers are made in a laboratory environment by the technician in accordance with the patient’s real teeth and in an aesthetic way. These prostheses, made according to the measurements taken in the patient’s mouth, are placed on the implant with the help of screws.
6- Check up: As with any treatment, the long-term success of dental implant treatments is directly related to oral hygiene. In addition, our patients should not miss the annual dental check-ups.
5. How long does the implant procedure take?
You need to make 2 visits to complete your implant and implant supported zirconium porcelain teeth treatment. At the first appointment, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Musa KARTÖZ will place the implant in the jaw bone. Then, the surgeon covers the implant with gingiva(gum) or place healing abutment to heal favourably. The average healing period is between 3-6 months according to patient’s bone quality.
At second appointment; zirconium crowns or bridges will be placed. If you wish to wait or delay your appointment for multiple reasons, it is not a problem around 6 months.
6. Are dental implant risky?
Implant treatments are proven dental technique that scientifically tested and used for a long time by oral surgeons. Implant success rate is around %99. Possible risk factors that impact the implant treatment are: diabetes mellitus (type 1), smoking, poor oral hygiene and osteoporosis. At Global Dental Center our success rate is around %99.4.
7. How long dental implant can last?
If you maintain proper oral hygiene, such as proper brushing, flossing and mouth shower the implant can last a lifetime. This is assuming the patient receives regular dental check-ups every 6 months.
8. What factors impact dental implant success?
Smoking
Smoking is not only bad for your overall health, but for your oral health as well. Because of this, it can also affect the success of your dental implants. First of all, smoking slows down the body’s natural healing process, which can increase the risk of infection after an implant surgery. Not only that, but smoking causes your blood vessels to constrict, which can cause excessive bleeding during and after your procedure. Because of the negative impacts smoking has on dental implant placement, many implant specialists will require you to stop smoking for a certain amount of time before your procedure.
Bone Mass
Another key factor that affects the success of dental implants is how much bone mass you have in your jaw. This is because there needs to be a certain amount of bone to allow the implant to osseointegrate. After losing one or more teeth, the jawbone will slowly start to deteriorate. Thus, the longer you have had missing teeth, the less bone mass your jaw will have. People with low bone mass can still have dental implants placed, however they may also need supplemental procedures such as a bone graft. Bone grafting procedures add bone material to areas of low bone mass to encourage new bone growth. Only an implant specialist can determine if a bone graft is needed for dental implant placement.
Oral Hygiene
When it comes to having dental implants placed, proper oral hygiene is huge. Just because dental implants are artificial teeth doesn’t mean that you don’t need to care for them. In fact, oral hygiene for dental implants is the same as oral hygiene for natural teeth. This means that you will need to brush twice a day, floss once a day, and use mouthwash. These habits manage the amount of plaque and bacteria in your mouth, which prevents infection and increases the chances of implant success. Conversely, not practicing good oral hygiene can cause your implant to become infected, which can cause it to fail.
Health Gums
The health of your gums is another factor that affects dental implant success, as well as another reason why oral hygiene is so important. People who have or have had gum disease in the past are at an increased risk of developing an infection known asperi-implantitis, which is known to cause implant failure. Therefore, most implant dentists recommend treating gum disease so that there is no active infection before having dental implants placed.
Diet
What you eat after dental implant surgery is another key factor that affects implant success. After surgery, you will need to abide by a temporary soft foods diet. You will also need to chew on the side of your mouth opposite to the implant if possible. Eating soft foods ensures that you don’t apply too much force to your implant before it has had a chance to heal. Conversely, eating foods that are chewy, crunchy, or hard can exert too much force on a healing implant, which can cause it to shift in position or break.
9. Why should i have my implant treatment done in turkey?
Implant treatment service in Turkey is at a very high level. High quality and FDA approved branded materials and the best technologies used in Europe are used in your implant treatment. However, the cost of implant treatment is lower in Turkey compared to England, other European countries and the USA. The cost of crowns to be made on implants is also very low.
The most important advantage of having implant treatment in Turkey is when you decide to have your implant treatment, your treatment process starts immediately. Unlike Europe and the USA, you do not make an examination appointment and an operation appointment.
When you come to our clinic for treatment, your panoramic x-ray and intraoral photographs are taken and the most suitable implant planning is made for you, and if your bone structure is suitable, your implants are placed on the same day. At your second appointment, which takes place 3-6 months later, the gingiva is arranged and crowns are placed.
Turkey is a perfect holiday destination with its unique beaches, constantly shining sun and delicious Turkish cuisine. Although the quality standard of the hotels is very high, the cost of the hotel is quite low.
Finally, when compared to Mexico, the Turkish government meticulously inspects all healthcare services to our international patients. Your implant surgeries are performed by a maxillofacial surgeon. Maxillofacial surgeons received training on maxillofacial surgery for 5 more years after completing 5 years of dentistry faculty. Our maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Musa Kartöz performs your surgery with 13 years of experience.
